How are inspections scheduled?
For Cloudpermit permits, log in to Cloudpermit to request an inspection. For open permits not issued through Cloudpermit, complete the County's online inspection-request form. Requests made before 3 p.m. are scheduled for the next business day when available. The permit hard card and approved plans must be accessible on site or a reinspection fee may be charged. Electrical inspections are performed by the State at (303) 869-3473.
Which codes and exemptions should I review?
Grand County states that 2021 Building Codes and the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code with local amendments are adopted and effective July 1, 2026. The County's current-code list includes the 2021 ICC package, the 2023 National Electrical Code, and the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code; County code resolutions are listed on the Codes & Amendments page. The Building Division is the AHJ in Grand Lake, Hot Sulphur Springs, Kremmling, and unincorporated Grand County; Granby, Fraser, and Winter Park use their own building division. A permit is generally required for construction, alteration, relocation, repair, change of use, or demolition. Exceptions include one-story detached tool/storage sheds or playhouses up to 120 square feet and 12 feet high when accessory to a single-family dwelling; fences up to 6 feet; retaining walls up to 4 feet unless supporting surcharge or certain liquids; grade-supported water tanks up to 5,000 gallons with height-to-width ratio no more than 2:1; grade-level platforms, walks, and driveways not part of an accessible route; painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertops and similar finish work; prefabricated pools under 24 inches deep; swings/playground equipment; and wall-supported window awnings projecting no more than 54 inches without additional support.
