Project questions
Frequently asked questions for Mineral County
Who handles permitting for this jurisdiction?
Mineral County Land Use Office / County Administrator is the identified county-level authority for this profile. Confirm that the property is in its service area before filing.
How should I begin an application?
Begin with the online permit gateway listed in the application guide. If the portal does not recognize the address or project type, contact Mineral County Land Use Office: (719) 658-2360; deputyadmin@mincocolo.com; County main line: (719) 658-2331..
How long might review take?
Submit the application and designs at least 30 days before planned construction. Incomplete or unpaid applications are held for 30 days for completion; after that a new application is required. No standard review or issuance time beyond this submission lead time is published.
How are inspections scheduled?
Before the concrete pour, the applicant or contractor must arrange the first site meeting after staking/forms with at least 72 hours' notice so the County can check setbacks and location. The contractor must give at least 72 hours' notice for final inspection; the County says it will set up the final inspection within 72 hours of the call. Final inspection verifies approved State electric, gas, and plumbing inspections where applicable. No occupancy or use is allowed until final inspection, and the County issues a Certificate of Occupancy for new dwellings and commercial structures.
Which codes and exemptions should I review?
Mineral County has not adopted the International Building Code, Uniform Building Code, National Fire Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, Uniform Electrical Code, or other nationally recognized building codes. The County encourages use of International Residential Code standards but does not adopt them as County code. Colorado State plumbing and electrical permits and inspections are required; State electrical scheduling is (303) 869-3449 and State plumbing scheduling is (303) 869-3469. County zoning, septic/OWTS, floodplain, and other State statutory requirements still apply. A County land-use letter states that construction consent is generally required for construction, reconstruction, or alteration costing more than $500, or for additions, but the zoning rules exempt interior alterations of a single-unit dwelling, fences, accessory buildings for agricultural purposes, and portable structures. The building application also treats construction under the County's consent process rather than an adopted building-code permit. Confirm whether a proposed project still needs zoning, septic, floodplain, airport, or State trade approvals.
