Which codes and exemptions should I review?
Marquette County Code Chapter 71 adopts Wisconsin Administrative Code SPS 305 (credentials), SPS 316 (electrical), SPS 320-325 and SPS 327 (Uniform Dwelling Code), and SPS 381-387 (Uniform Plumbing Code), including subsequent revisions. The county building code applies in participating municipalities; the county page lists Town of Springfield, Villages of Endeavor, Neshkoro and Oxford, and City of Montello as exceptions. Chapter 71 exempts detached one- and two-family accessory structures (including residential pools and major equipment replacements), re-siding, re-roofing below a third roofing layer, interior surface finishing, cabinetry, inspector-approved minor repairs, normal HVAC/plumbing/electrical repairs such as replacing switches, receptacles, fixtures or dimmers, agricultural structures, and children's play structures from the county building permit. County zoning is separate: accessory structures of 100 square feet or more generally require a zoning permit.
