Permit-exempt work includes one-story detached tool/storage sheds and playhouses not over 200 square feet (unless adding electrical or plumbing), fences not over 6 feet, retaining walls not over 4 feet unless supporting a surcharge or regulated liquids, qualifying grade-supported tanks up to 5,000 gallons, patios/decks/sidewalks/driveways not more than 30 inches above grade and not over a lower story or part of an accessible route, and painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, countertops, and similar finish work. Exempt work must still comply with applicable laws.
