How are inspections scheduled?

The owner or builder must notify the Building Inspector when required stages are approached. Contact 618-237-9737.

Which codes and exemptions should I review?

Bond County's December 17, 2024 building ordinance adopts the 2021 International Building Code, 2021 International Residential Code, 2020 National Electrical Code, and 2021 International Fire Code for covered unincorporated areas. The county exempts structures used for agricultural purposes on farms, including farm residences and garages, subject to the ordinance's acreage and Building Inspector determinations. Minor repairs to existing parts are exempt only when they do not affect structural load-bearing elements, exits, light/ventilation, room size, sanitary or fire-resistance requirements, height, area, capacity, or prohibited materials.

Before contacting the permit counter

Have the project facts ready.

A productive call starts with a clear description of the property and proposed work. Keep the site address, parcel or assessor number, project valuation, existing occupancy, approximate square footage, structural scope, contractor information, and desired start date in front of you. Those facts help the Authority Having Jurisdiction route the question to building, planning, fire, environmental health, or another reviewing discipline.
