Regulatory framework
The code baseline for Bonner County.
Bonner County has not adopted or enforced a structural building code since 1997. The County reviews Building Location Permits for use, zoning, setbacks, parcel legality, required agency approvals, and Bonner County Revised Code Titles 11, 12, and 14; engineered code-compliant plans are required in mapped floodplains and floodways. Separate Idaho DOPL permits and applicable state codes govern electrical, plumbing, HVAC, propane, and manufactured-home work.
Inspection lane
Before construction starts, post the Building Location Permit visibly at the site's vehicular entrance, install temporary erosion controls when applicable, call the Bonner County Planning Department at 208-265-1458 for the mandatory initial location/compliance inspection, and receive approval. State electrical, plumbing, and HVAC inspections are scheduled through Idaho DOPL online services or at 208-332-4700. The County fee schedule charges $100 for a code-required reinspection caused by applicant action or inaction.
