Typical review lane

N/A; no typical plan-review or issuance timeline is published. An unpaid application or an application with no construction after 180 days becomes void and must be resubmitted; permits are valid for one year.

Treat this as a planning signal, not a guaranteed approval date. Completeness, corrections, resubmittals, and agency workload control the actual clock.

01

Confirm jurisdiction

Verify the parcel is inside this agency’s service area and note whether a city, state, fire marshal, septic authority, or utility district also has approval authority.

02

Assemble a complete package

Prepare legible plans, site information, project valuation, ownership authorization, contractor information, and any energy, floodplain, zoning, or utility documentation the issuing office requires.

03

Track the review record

Keep the permit number, approved plan set, correction comments, fee receipts, and inspection results together. Those records establish the compliance trail for the next trade.

Project questions

Frequently asked questions for Logan County

Who handles permitting for this jurisdiction?

Logan County Planning, Zoning and Building Department is the identified county-level authority for this profile. Confirm that the property is in its service area before filing.

How should I begin an application?

Begin with the online permit gateway listed in the application guide. If the portal does not recognize the address or project type, contact Planning, Zoning and Building Department: (970) 522-7879; Building Inspector Rob Quint ext. 257; Planning and Zoning Technician Lisa Williams ext. 226.

How long might review take?

N/A; no typical plan-review or issuance timeline is published. An unpaid application or an application with no construction after 180 days becomes void and must be resubmitted; permits are valid for one year.

How are inspections scheduled?

Request County inspections at least 24 hours in advance through the Planning and Zoning Department at (970) 522-7879. The normal site-built sequence is footer, foundation, framing, drywall, and final/Certificate of Occupancy; storage or garage work generally uses footer, foundation, framing, and final. Electrical and plumbing inspections are State inspections scheduled at 1-800-955-5770; plumbing requests are limited to Tuesdays and Thursdays and must be made by 4:00 PM the prior day.

Which codes and exemptions should I review?

The current official permit packet, revised October 2025, states that Logan County enforces the 2006 International Building Code, 2006 International Residential Code, 2006 International Mechanical Code, 2006 International Energy Conservation Code, and 2006 International Fuel and Gas Code for unincorporated areas. Plumbing and electrical permits and inspections are handled by the State of Colorado. Confirm with the County whether any 2026 code adoption has superseded the packet before filing. No permit is required for structures 10 feet by 12 feet or smaller (120 square feet). Agricultural storage buildings or animal barns on parcels of at least 35 acres may be eligible for an Agriculture Permit instead of a building permit. The permit packet also states inspections are not required for agricultural buildings, oil and gas operations, and some utilities, although inspections may be performed on request; zoning, floodplain, fire, and other approvals can still apply.

What makes an application complete

A portal submission is only as strong as its supporting record.

Before you click submit, make sure the drawings agree with the site plan, project description, valuation, ownership authorization, and contractor information. If the work changes structure, occupancy, drainage, fire protection, energy performance, or utility demand, describe that scope plainly. Ambiguous narratives create correction cycles and delay the field schedule.

Save the confirmation number, payment receipt, uploaded plan set, and every correction comment. Those records are the backbone of a defensible compliance file when multiple trades or agencies share responsibility.
