Regulatory framework
The code baseline for Ashland County.
Ashland County's 1934 Use Districts Ordinance, Shoreland Protection Ordinance, Floodplain Ordinance, subdivision, wetland, scenic-area, and private-sewage regulations govern county land-use and zoning permits. County permits cover all new structures and alterations to a building envelope, including houses, additions, commercial structures, garages, sheds, decks, porches, replacement structures, changes of use, and most filling or grading. Wisconsin Uniform Dwelling Code requirements, including SPS 320-325, apply separately to one- and two-family dwellings and qualifying manufactured homes through each municipality's contracted UDC inspection agency; towns, villages, and cities may impose additional permits.
