The county fee schedule identifies work below its permit-review thresholds: fences require plans and a permit when over 7 feet, retaining walls when over 4 feet, and detached storage buildings over 200 square feet or any size in a floodplain receive the regular accessory-structure permit fee; a storage building of 200 square feet or less that has no utilities and is outside the floodplain is handled under a $12 county fee rather than the regular permit fee. Demolition of a structure damaged by an act of God or fire is exempt from the demolition fee. Agricultural structures approved by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture are treated separately. The county does not publish a broader local list of cosmetic-work exemptions, so applicants should confirm ordinary repairs with the department.
