Regulatory framework
The code baseline for Spartanburg County.
Spartanburg County identifies the 2021 International Building, Fire, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas, One- and Two-Family Dwelling, and Property Maintenance Codes, the 2020 National Electrical Code, and the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code as the codes used for construction in the county in 2026, with applicable South Carolina modifications.
Inspection lane
Log into Citizen Self Service, choose Home > Request Inspection, enter the permit number, select the inspection type and requested date, then submit. The street address or lot number and inspection card must be posted and visible; work may not proceed beyond the latest approved inspection. The county states that residential projects can require separate building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, sprinkler and alarm permits, so the correct permit number must be used for each inspection. Certificate of occupancy is obtained through the CSS permit record after the final building inspection passes.
