The county's current adopted list includes the 2021 International Building, Residential, Mechanical, Existing Building, Energy Conservation, and Plumbing Codes; 2023 NFPA 70 National Electrical Code; 2024 NFPA 101 Life Safety Code; 2022 NFPA 72; 2022 NFPA 13; 2024 NFPA 1 Fire Code; and 2024 NFPA 54 and NFPA 58 gas codes, with the effective dates shown in the county's July 28, 2026 code sheet.
Inspection lane
Building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and gas tank/service inspections are requested through Middle Department Inspection Agency (MDIA) at 410-822-8300. Fire Marshal inspections require at least three working days' notice at 410-758-4500 ext. 1144. Approved stamped plans and comment letters must remain on site. Typical sequence is footing, foundation, rough-in/framing, insulation, fire-code final, then final building after trade inspections; allow 7-10 business days after final building inspection is requested for a Certificate of Occupancy unless arranged otherwise.
