Regulatory framework
The code baseline for Bullitt County.
Bullitt County issues building, electrical, and heating-cooling permits for new construction and structural remodeling and reviews plans for compliance with the Kentucky Building Code. Kentucky’s current framework is the 2018 Kentucky Building Code and 2018 Kentucky Residential Code, based on the 2015 IBC/IRC with Kentucky amendments. No newer 2026 code adoption was verified.
Inspection lane
For permits or inspections contact Building and Safety at 502-921-2970. The May 2026 residential guidance lists footer, framing, and final building inspections; electrical rough-in, temporary-power, and final inspections; HVAC and plumbing rough/final inspections; and a final building inspection for the certificate of occupancy. Mobile homes generally have no building inspections unless decks/steps are built. The county requires septic approval, floodplain status, encroachment/driveway permits where applicable, and land-disturbance approval for qualifying projects.
