Regulatory framework
The code baseline for Lee County.
N/A for a countywide technical building-code edition. Lee County’s posted ordinance states that the county has not adopted a zoning ordinance. The county publishes engineering permits, floodplain development permits, and commercial wind/solar siting permits, while ordinary building and trade regulation falls to the applicable municipality or Iowa state agency. Private sewage systems are regulated by Lee County Environmental Services under Iowa requirements.
Inspection lane
Lee County does not publish a general building inspection-scheduling process. The County Engineer accepts road/engineering permits and land-use permits by email, fax, or mail. Environmental Services issues private-sewer permits and conducts inspections; a complete application, 911 address, and $500 fee are required, contractors must give three business days’ notice before installation, and no work may start before approval. Contact the applicable city or state authority for building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections.
