Regulatory framework
The code baseline for Cerro Gordo County.
Cerro Gordo County Zoning Ordinance No. 15, revised December 13, 2022, governing rural/unincorporated land use, setbacks, site plans, zoning permits, floodplain development, and special uses. The reviewed county materials do not identify a county-adopted 2026 technical building-code edition; state electrical, plumbing, environmental-health, and Iowa DNR floodplain requirements may apply separately.
Inspection lane
Submit the application with a drawing showing the proposed structure, dimensions, distances to nearby structures and property lines, and a floor plan for a new home or addition. Applications may be submitted through GeoPermits, by email to plz@cerrogordo.gov, in person, or by mail. The county may enter the property to review the application; floodplain work also requires Iowa DNR review and a local floodplain permit. Contact Planning and Zoning at 641-421-3075 for inspection arrangements. Electrical inspections are handled through Iowa's electrical program.
